Dhoom – Indian Streatery and Cocktail Bar is all new restaurant start-up in Dunfermline. Ideally one would give the restaurant a couple of days to settle down before you go and check it out. Initial days are expected to have glitches and it takes a little time to fix the bugs. But when we (I and my friend Natty) heard that Dhoom- the Indian Streatery and Cocktail Bar was opening its doors in Dunfermline on 17th October, We couldn’t resist booking for the first day first show. The restaurant is located in the vicinity to the town centre, so it is convenient for people to make a quick visit to the restaurant while they are out for work or shopping. As soon as we entered Dhoom, we felt as if we were in India, the pious land with loving people, as it is said in India, “Atithi Devo Bhawah", which means the guest is equivalent to the God and should be catered the way one worships one’s deities.
Dhoom helped us to experience that Indian hospitality which is unique in itself, believe us, the milieu was all vibrant, I could feel the positive vibes of Dhoom, the feel was heavenly as if the dream of Utopia is real, everything was up to mark and made us fall for this little India in the laps of Scotland.
Our review is based on four major points or 4 “Ps”. (Product, Place, Price & Promotions)
Literally being the restaurant’s first customer, we walked into a space that was quirky yet warm and inviting. Graffiti that reminds us of the different Bollywood movies adorned the walls and the entire restaurant is done up in bright hues, the walls to the hangings of the striking Indian tapestry makes it the fusion of old-school as well as contemporary style. Space was well partitioned into a variety of seating options – They have got Tuk-Tuk & Scooter directly from the meagre streets of India that are now well settled in Scotland, the concept of Indian swings make it all Indian, as you sit, swing and eat along, what an amazing combination. The table is the Indian Thella’s (food stalls) with chairs aligned, how amazing is that…. Each & every feature of the restaurant is the USP in itself, the glory of the interiors doesn’t end here, they have an all Indian Bar that serves you cocktails from all around India.
The Bar is open till late in the night for the party to go on because the Dhoom is all about celebrations, festive, fun and drinks to turn you tipsy. If we talk about service then that is flawless, although the concept is relaxed eat out dining the service by the staff is friendly and cheerful which makes them the brand ambassadors of Dhoom and we could see that every guest falls in love with the courteous staff. Location is just perfect with close to the shopping and right next to the @Alhambra Theatre, this makes it a perfect venue to visit with shopping or entertainment.
Let’s dive quickly into the main “hero” of the venue and that is “Food & Beverage”. Till now they haven’t opened their feathers extravagantly (maybe ala carte menu would be launched by the time this review goes live), only the taster menu is released but people are truly going gaga over the food served as we also adored the taste of Dhoom and loved the foodie vibes I was slurping in there. They serve some authentic food with a twist from the streets of India, from starters like Hippie Corn Rolls to Air India Chicken Wings or main meals like Bombay Potato Bhaji or Indian Railway Canteen Lamb; they had everything at an affordable price.
Back to the food now. All food was served course wise. We started with Tapas styled starters and being the chicken lover, I lost my heart to Punjabi chicken tikka. The “Bhojpuri dal-chawal" was a bit of pleasant surprise as a starter because the name is curious and if you google “dal chawal" it is one of the staple food (rice and lentil) however the one at Dhoom is completely an innovative twist to what Indians eat at home. The next to arrive was the main course and as we could choose only one and I chose Home-style chicken curry with rice, it was delicious, and I have never tasted such beautifully cooked Tikka ever. For desserts, we were offered White chocolate Samosa (Indian Pastry stuffed with white chocolate and deep fried) the taste of overflowing chocolate in the Samosa was divine and capable enough to satiate my sweet-tooth.
Dhoom is a great value for money. The taster menu costs £9.95 per person for lunch and dinner costs to £13.95 on Sunday to Thursday and £15.95 on Friday and Saturday. This is such a great bargain considering the delicious treat you get for the price. The Indian cocktails are £5.95 each which is also pretty reasonable.
There is a lot of buzz on social media amongst its diners and the talking points are #tastermenu #swings #tuktuk and #cocktails……
We also saw that first four days before launch there was a promotion called #DhoomBoom where-in the restaurant opened only for 2:00 hours for guests with invitations only including some of them via social media competition. During #dhoomboom guests were served with complimentary food to make them aware of the taste of Dhoom. The launch day saw guests including Provost of Fife – Cllr. Jim Leishman and S-A Somerville MSP for Dunfermline and West Fife apart from the host of our guests from the town.
To sum up, Dhoom is giving the perfect Indian vibes to the guests and has more than one reason for the diners to visit and experience, be it Indian street food, unique fit out and décor or quick working lunch, the restaurant has loads to offer. Dhoom is already doing good in terms of customer experience and we would strongly recommend a visit to experience first-hand why guests are falling in love for Indian street food at Dhoom and the famous Hindi phrase sums it all that “India se pehli nazar mein pyaar ho jata hai………” (One falls for India on the very first go……….)
